Stickers

These Stickers are inspired by 1950’s genre of Lesbian pulp fiction, a low cost, mass produced genre featuring sensationalised and taboo descriptions of lesbian relationships.

The genre was typically aimed at men, with lesbian characters meeting unhappy endings to appease censorship laws. Despite this, they provided a rare medium for women to explore their sexuality and enjoy Lesbian representation.

Female writers such as Artemis Smith (a pseudonym for activist Annselm Morpurgo and her partner Billie Taulman) subverted the genre, writing lesbian characters and relationships in a more authentic way.

I chose to make stickers to keep these as easily produced and affordable pieces, honouring the original genre.
